Missions at Journey Christian Church

Journey Christian Church has been a strong missions-minded church since our founding in 1956. Today, we support 16 missionary families in 5 foreign countries plus the United States as our "Focused Partnerships" - close relationships with regular and frequent involvement. We are a strong proponent of personal involvement in missions through prayer, finances, and participation.

Prayer – we publish a Monthly Prayer Calendar for Missions as a prayer tool, listing a specific prayer request for one of our supported missionaries on each day of the month.

Finances – the Missions Board develops an annual Missions Budget which allocates missions giving (separate from General Fund giving) to support our missionaries and to support mission projects and short-term mission trips.

Participation -

* 5th and 6th Graders serve locally each spring. They have an annual missions experience, known as the 4:12 Team, based on 1 Timothy 4:12. They have served at the Open Door Mission, Mission Share Outreach Center, and with The Father's Heart.

* Junior and Senior High Youth serve inner-city Rochester through Flower City Work Camp during the school spring break, joining with other local church youth and adult leaders to do home repairs, Sidewalk Bible Clubs, and Basketball Camps.

* Senior High Youth serve through the annual summer missions trip, known as Summer Servants. Over the years, Summer Servant Teams have served outside the U.S. (Romania, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras) and in the U.S. (New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago, Pittsburgh, New Orleans).

*Junior High School students are able to participate in JAM - Junior High Adventures in Ministry. JAM takes place every spring at Cairn University, Philadelphia, PA. The purpose of JAM is to glorify God by equipping Junior High students to serve Jesus Christ by providing them with excellent training and a "hands on" ministry experience.

* Adult Short-Term Mission Trips have served in the U.S. (Brooklyn, NY) and outside the U.S. (Costa Rica, Guatemala, Romania/Moldova, England, Philippines, and Papua New Guinea).

Mission Sundays are held twice a year and provide an opportunity for visiting missionaries to share their ministries and for the participants of short-term mission trips to report on their work for the Lord. Our next Missions Sunday is April 9, 2017.
