Journey’s 4:12 Ministry provides 5th and 6th graders the opportunity to serve in one or two-day mission trips to inner city Rochester. The ministry is named for the verse that inspired it: 1 Timothy 4:12, “Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.”
A team of adults selects, prepares, and accompanies the children on a fall and spring mission. In the fall the students are introduced to serving through a one-day experience at Open Door Mission. At Open Door the children help to prepare and serve a meal for patrons and assist in leading a worship service. In January, we announce to parents and children the opportunity to apply for a spring mission, which is held each April. Adult team members interview prospective participants and work with parents to determine the needs and readiness of each child. Going on a 4:12 mission’s trip involves a commitment to participate in a series of specially planned meetings in advance of the trip. The team builds unity and prepares spiritually and logistically for the mission through these meetings.
Recent city ministry partners include the Open Door Mission Mission Share Outreach Center, and the Father's Heart.
The 4:12 Ministry is open to children who regularly attend Journey Christian Church. This ministry of mercy through service plays an important part of fulfilling our vision to "lovingly and patiently prepare the hearts and minds of children for true repentance, faith, love, and satisfaction in God."
